On My Mind Monday

This has been on my mind all weekend. I've been hearing about these rice and wheat shortages all weekend. I've heard it's because of the alternative fuels. The corn that we feed the cows is being used to research new ways to power things, making meat milk cheese and eggs double in price. Does this seem like insanity to you. Is it just me, that thinks that in this mad rush to be "green" we are hurting ourselves? I honestly would rather pay more for gas (something i can, and have cut back on, ) something unnessisary. Then not be able to afford to feed my family. food, you know, that stuff you can't do with out.
Or, why is it, that the fuel efficient vehicles, and the energy saving appliances, are so expensive, the people who need them to cut back on their utility bills, can't afford them. I would love one of those front loading washers. They use half the water and electricity. Have you seen the price of those. Or a tankless water heater....... It just reinforces the goal of selfseficient. (sp) But it makes me sad for my kids. I will need to make sure they know how to garden, and provide for themselves. And really stress the importance of going to school.
I don't really feel "doom and gloom" or anything. I know we will be taken care of, and we will be able to take care of our "needs" But i am amazed at what people consider "needs". But some of those things sure are nice, and make life easier.

I guess it's like that saying, "it takes money to get money" right? I'm with you though.. Why don't they make the appliances and cars that are more fuel efficient, less expensive to buy? Hopefully, like some of our other luxuries, the prices will eventually start coming down as more companies make them and the competition rises.

I am always impressed with you and your family. You are teaching your kids that you don't have to have everything in order to be happy. You have your priorities straight and when it comes down to it, that's what really matters.

Like you said, it's amazing what things people consider "needs". It's all about where your priorities are.
