The Numbers Don't Lie

SO here we are rounding the corner into week 24. I know, only 24. About week 16, my dr. started telling me about what was ahead. Yeah yeah, I nodded and brushed it off, because as you know, I have don't this before a few times. He said I would slow down about week 24. He said my diabetes would kick in earlier. I would put on weight faster. You know all that stuff... just earlier. For about 3 days now I have been thirsty. No parched. No matter how much I drink, I can't seem to quench my thirst. That usually happens about 2 weeks before my numbers reach dietetic numbers. Not this time. I got 3 days. SO, back on the diet I go. Really, no big deal. I have done this before, I can do this again, and since I have put on 18 lbs with 14 weeks left to go. I really am okay with it. Pregnancies with singletons, the say 1 lb a week after week 20. Guess what it is for twins. Now I have a good reason to watch what I eat and eat better. AND with no major holidays I will feel like I want to eat sugar at, I should be fine. Easter is far enough away, I will be fine. Once I get all the sugar out of my system, I don't crave it anymore. So, the next 2 week, will be a detox.
my other issue, I heard you art not supposed to lay on your back when you are pregnant. I have never had a problem, and only occationally wake up on my back. Sunday morning was one of those occasions. The problem was, I tried to get out of bed, and just about passed out. it took 10 minutes for the room to stop spinning.
Luckily, I have not had any complications. (knock on wood) The girl is a little quieter than the boy, but that's my only issue. Just a lot of the typical pregnancy issues, earlier.

5 of 6 is 3

Weird. She was my baby.
Right now she is in watching a Sponge Bob movie. Her favorite thing, is to go lay in my bed, after the kids go to school and watch movies. She's very independant. Which is alright with me. 4 of 6 is not. She LOVE Pinpess (princess) anything. I actually got her a princess Barbie for her birthday. I HATE Barbies. But, it was her day, and it made her happy.
She potty trained herself before her 2nd birthday, I wish 6 of 6 would do that so I wouldn't have 3 in diapers.
Our goal for her 3rd year. Help her stop sucking her thumb. Any suggestions would help. 3 of 6 did it on his own at 3.
Now to gear up for 3 of 6's 8th birthday, and a baptism.

Update

We still have a boy and girl. That's good, I may be disappointed with change at this point. The bright spot on the boys bowels have cleared up, which is a relief.
I LOVE winter. But I am ready for spring. I am ready for my Feb. birthday's and a baptism. And some baby showers, and some sister having babies. Time has flown, but now that I have some things to look forward to, it has slowed back down.
My kids go back on track on Monday, and I feel bad that I didn't do more with them. But packing up 6 kids right now, seems so hard. I will get back in my groove, once we have acclimated to the new babies. I have been a pretty crummy mom lately. It's hard to be nice when you don't feel good. Another reason to not want to do this again. My kids are getting to the age where they need me to be able to be fully engaged. When they are little, they don't require more than a kiss and hug. At 10 we are getting into uncharted waters.
And just asking? Why on earth would a mom make a tape of giving her child hot sauce. Do want the country outraged, and then to loose them? I don't necessarily disagree with the punishment. (No, I have never given my children hot sauce as a punishment, they eat it on their own) But common. I think lying is one of those serious offenses, needing to be nipped in the butt. And I think we as parents have the right to decided on how it is appropriate to punish them. NOT THE GOVERNMENTS. But don't tape it. Don't send it to Dr. Phil. Then wonder what you did wrong.

Ouch

I have tried to not make a habit of complaining about this pregnancy. If you come up and ask me how I am, when I see you, I will tell you honestly how I feel. But in the blog world and on FB, I don't want to complain. I would like to document this pregnancy in some way, though. I have been doing a poor job of it so far. I should be taking weekly pictures of my growing belly. But I am a little embarrassed. I don't know why. maybe because I was feeling so great about loosing all the weight I wanted to, hitting my goal weight a week before I found out I was pregnant. I know it sounds petty. And I really am not horribly bothered by it, because I know I need to gain weight. And I know these babies are a welcome addition. But this weight has been coming on faster than I can keep track of. So, this was not my intended topic. really, who cares about their baby weight. I am doing the same thing I have done 6 other times, and even after 6 of 6, I could still loose it. It takes a year, and to not be nursing, but it can be done.
I have noticed my comfort level is directly related to the position these babies are sitting in. 4 weeks ago I started having those round ligament pains. But it wasn't one of those quick stabbing pains that went away when you changed positions. I tried that. It was a constant horrible pain, that I called trent and told him I needed to go to the Dr. And I don't go to the dr. unless I am bleeding, or dying, or in labor. I settled on a phone call to ask what I should do. The nurse recommended I take a Tylenol and a bath. Which I did. Afterward I was still in horrible pain. SO I lay down to see if I could get them to move, only to realize they were trying to share the spot at the bottom of my belly. That place isn't even big enough for one baby, let alone 2. So yes, it was just round ligament pain, X's 2.
Last night, I got about half way through my dinner, and realized I couldn't fit anymore in me. keep in mind, I am only 22 weeks. This is a 36 week problem for me. I went downstairs with the kids to watch the movie we picked out for FHE, and I folded laundry. I could barely move, I was so uncomfortable from dinner. SO, because I have learned from past experience to see where the babies are sitting if I an overly uncomfortable, I decided to check. They were sitting one in-front of the other. I went and got my measuring tape to see how many centimeters my belly was measuring, and It was 30. This measurement is a tool the dr. uses to see how many weeks you are. I was measuring 30 weeks. When they are side by side, it's 26. SO I gained 4 weeks just with a change in their position.
The whole thing, even as uncomfortable as it is, it really quite interesting. I feel like I have gained 10 years. I already move slower. Which, my dr. warned me I would start slowing down about 24 weeks. But at 17 weeks, I still felt so good, I didn't believe him. It's catching up.
I am excited. It is a rare opportunity to be able to carry 2 babies. (although not as rare as I thought, they seem to be coming down in multiples right now) I am grateful. Mostly I am grateful I am able to carry these babies, so far uneventfully.
Thanks for letting me complain.

Second Favorite Time of Year

Can you believe January is almost over? This is always the longest coldest month of the year. And it always drags for me. But not this year. I think because I'm pregnant, and dreading getting to the end. I foresee misery and uncomfortable nights.
It is also one of my favorites. It's tax season. It seems that everyone has a different opinion on the subject. Most people claim few exemptions so they can get more per paycheck, and less at the end of the year. I don't get this. I mean I understand the concept, but do you really save any of that money, to actually claim the interest you don't want the fed's to claim? We're on the other end of the spectrum. We claim all of our little deductions, and (since we are so poor) get everything back. To me, it's a wonderful system. We wouldn't be able to remodel our home with out that once a year chuck. We wouldn't be able to stock our food storage once a year ( I hope when the world starts to end, it happens in Feb. We'll be prepared) And it's always nice to be able to buy something extra, you couldn't otherwise afford (because someone ALWAYS needs new shoes or someone breaks something, or you have a baby, or 2). Like that under mounted microwave I've been coveting for about 2 years now. Or the dishwasher that just went out. There is no way we could have put the flooring in our house, or bought the kitchen floor, with out it. Maybe it's the mentality we forced ourselves to have. We will not go into debt for any of these things. If we don't have the cash for it, we don't buy it.
Plus, we are doing our part to stimulate the economy. SO after the dentist is paid, and the money to have these babies is set aside, I may get my bathroom this year. And if nothing else, the kitchen floor (last years tax return) will finally get installed. Now THAT, would make me happy.

Our House

This is what we have been doing. You should sit, it's super exciting. (I'm sorry sarcasm doesn't radiate from the computer)
first we are in the middle of science fair projects. I am ready to be done with them, I am tired of food rotting on my back counter. 1 of 6 fermented grapefruit juice. She decided to see where it fermented faster. We had one in the fridge, one on the counter and one on a heater vent. The problem with this experiment was that was the week our heater didn't work very well/at all. And 4 of 6 kept finding the one on the vent. Then she lost the piece of paper, the day before it was due, with her results on it. 2 of 6 is molding cheese. He is trying to find out what molds faster. Sharp, American, String, or Cream cheese. So far cream cheese is winning. He figured out that keeping it in a box, on the counter with papers included, will keep it safe. I decided that conducting the experiment inside Ziploc bags would keep me from throwing up.
The kids are all off track for the next 3 weeks. Well, 4 of 6 still goes, but that's for my sanity. I did just realize she will be done with school the same week I will have babies. We may have to finegel something. But we'll cross that bridge later. They are already asking me what we are going to be doing, and they are bored. I would love to plan some off track activities like I used to, but no one seems to have the time anymore. And I feel so blah, and unmotivated. Taking 6 kids someplace feels like huge undertaking.
We did accomplish something big. trent filed out taxes last night. That will be nice to get those back and to be able to pick up on some of our projects. We are having our kitchen floor delivered on Wed, I hope that is one of the projects, soon. I am getting excited for the weather to warm up, and put peas in the ground in about 5 weeks. I hope we have an early warm up. I would love to get somethings done around the yard, before I can't. I am measureing 24 weeks, and just under 20 weeks. I feel like I'm 30. And I ended up with an umbilical hernia. Not fun.
And last, we are preparing for 5 of 6's 3rd birthday. Right now, she is a thumb sucker. We have told her that a 3 yr old doesn't suck their thumb, and we are prepared to take drastic measures to 'help' her stop. It is already reeking havoc on her teeth.
That's our family.

How To Prepare. And For What?

I am just going to put this out there. Shovel your walks people. This is the business next to us, a week after the storm.
I am going to share with you a bit of my thought process from the past few weeks. I tend to be a little pessimistic. But, I tend to call it realistic. I am not a doom and gloom type person. But, if you look at things realistically, things are not as tough right now as they will be. Does that worry me? No, not really. And maybe because I know what's next. My beliefs keep me from panicking. Fear and faith can not reside together.
Here's why I have been thinking about this. Trent has been busy at his work. Usually, they spend the first part of their year, stocking shelves. Basically, they make more than they need, so they will have excess for the end of the year, when welfare needs tend to go up. 2009 was really busy, 2010 was even busier. SO at the end of 2009, after their shelves were empty, and that lull never came so they could restock their shelves, Their cupboards stayed empty, and they couldn't and still can't keep up with demand. He has been working from 5:30 am until 3:30 pm, sometimes later. Still just keeping up (sometimes not) with demand. Yes, it's a good thing. it means the Church is helping people. Yes, he has job security. And if it were just this one thing, there would be no cause for concern. But you see, the food industry is having the same problem.
I was reading yesterday, that even food suppliers are in that "cupboards are bare, barely keeping up to demand" mode also. So what happens when they can no longer keep up? What then? Do you have your shelves stocked? Have you learned to grow a garden? DO you have water? Are you working on getting your finances in order? While interest rates are down, did you refinance your home to a 10 15 or even 5 year mortgage? Or is your house payment already too big, that a 15 yr would be impossible? None of my business, but something for you to think about personally. If we own our homes, we will have a roof over our heads, if there is a job loss.
I have always felt a sense of needing to be prepared. Sometimes it's an urgency. How do we know what to prepare for? Will we have electricity? Will gasoline even be accessible? Is your job within biking distance? I'm not sure what is to come. Maybe this is as bad as it will get. But I am not going to go with that optimism. So, if you can do nothing else. Or if you are way more optimistic than I am, at least learn to plant and preserve a garden. I heard Glen Beck say yesterday, I wont quote word for word, but something to the effect of the people in New Orleans that had money and gold, ended up in the same boat as everyone else. The people with toilet paper and water were the richest.
