Can you believe January is almost over? This is always the longest coldest month of the year. And it always drags for me. But not this year. I think because I'm pregnant, and dreading getting to the end. I foresee misery and uncomfortable nights. It is also one of my favorites. It's tax season. It seems that everyone has a different opinion on the subject. Most people claim few exemptions so they can get more per paycheck, and less at the end of the year. I don't get this. I mean I understand the concept, but do you really save any of that money, to actually claim the interest you don't want the fed's to claim? We're on the other end of the spectrum. We claim all of our little deductions, and (since we are so poor) get everything back. To me, it's a wonderful system. We wouldn't be able to remodel our home with out that once a year chuck. We wouldn't be able to stock our food storage once a year ( I hope when the world starts to end, it happens in Feb. We'll be prepared) And it's always nice to be able to buy something extra, you couldn't otherwise afford (because someone ALWAYS needs new shoes or someone breaks something, or you have a baby, or 2). Like that under mounted microwave I've been coveting for about 2 years now. Or the dishwasher that just went out. There is no way we could have put the flooring in our house, or bought the kitchen floor, with out it. Maybe it's the mentality we forced ourselves to have. We will not go into debt for any of these things. If we don't have the cash for it, we don't buy it.
Plus, we are doing our part to stimulate the economy. SO after the dentist is paid, and the money to have these babies is set aside, I may get my bathroom this year. And if nothing else, the kitchen floor (last years tax return) will finally get installed. Now THAT, would make me happy.

I remember those days - the refund. That WAS cool.
Now, owning our business, we OWE big time every year - yuck :)
You are such a good example of thrift and readiness. Thanks for sharing your point of view on smart choices for that extra tax money. We, too, try to tackle projects in Feb/March.
We do the same things I love the instant savings account! :) Hope you can get those projects done!
