This morning I decided to take an idea from Magnamom and I let the kids vote on what we were having for dinner. We have been talking a lot about the election here, the kids keep coming home with "so and so are voting for Obama, who are you voting for" I really do try to encourage them to not worry about "adult "issues. They are not necessary to worry about when you are 7-8. Just enjoy being a kid, ride your bike, play in the rain, have fun. I don't want them thinking about the economy, socialize health care and gas prices. So, just to give them a little taste of what an election is like, I wrote up ballots, and I let them cast them in secret, and asked them not to discus what they voted for with others. But I did let them, before they cast their ballots, try to convince each other why they should vote for what the other wanted. And I told them the good things about each of their options.
1st choice Pot roast. It is easy on mom to put together, Looks good, smells good, tastes good. You know it'll be a winner.
2nd choice tacos. It's something we have a lot of. They like it, I know they will eat it, even 4 of 5 will eat.
3rd Choice Oatmeal. It's really good for you, It'll be better for you in the long run.
4th choice. Hamburgers. It's something different, and if you're looking for change, hamburgers are your choice.
So after everyone voted, 1 of 5 comes to me and says, so is there going to be blue cheese on those burgers? (I LOVE bleu cheese) I told her, that's the problem with the elections, you never REALLY know what you are going to get, until it's too late.
Stay tuned for the out come of our election.

What a great idea and good to let them be part of something. I like the idea of "mock" voting but for the last week, all our schools out here were doing was voting so then I ask myself, how much do our children really know what's going on? Even some high school kids, are they basically voting for what they really truly understand or are they voting for the vast majority because the media and politics have made him popular? Some adults out there don't even understand socialized social security how how would a 8-18 yr old. I love the idea of getting our kids involved but to what extent.....I agree with you and let them be kids without having to worry about how the government will fall apart in the next 8 years. Sorry, that's my rant for today. I was surprised that there wasn't more worry for those who had children about our new and upcoming Health care changes.
