This Week

We had one of our BIG ultrasounds. There will be a few of them. This one we went in to go see how many of everything there were. Ideally, you want 2 babies, with 2 placentas, and 2 amniotic sacs. Depending on when the egg splits (if they're identical) will determine how many of these things you get. If the egg splits at day 3, you get 2 of everything, the closer to day 8, they split, they start sharing things. If they share a placenta, you run the risk of TTTS. It's kind of scary. Even scarier, is when they split later than that, and you share a placenta and a sac. Usually in this case, they deliver at 32 weeks, and you are on hospital bed rest from 24 weeks until then. If the egg splits later than that, you run into conjoined twins.
Who knew. Before all of this, I thought twins were twins. You had 2 of them, some times they look the same, some times they don't.
To our relief, We have 2 of everything. Most likely be cause of hyper ovulation. But, there is no way to know for sure until the anatomy scan and they see if they are boy/girl if they are fraternal or identical. Or after they are born and you do a DNA test, or they just look totally different. Personally, I was hoping for identical twins. Although, I'm not sure why. We will find out in 6 weeks what they are. I have in the past not found out the sex, until delivery. But, I got rid of everything after 6 of 6 was born. So I need to be able to prepare.
They also moved my due date up to June 8th. Which in the world of twins, due date, is nothing to go by. I will spend most of my life from 32 weeks on, going to various drs. appt, u/s, non stress tests ect. I do my first glucose test in 3 weeks. The ultrasound tech and my dr. both kept telling me, 'because of my age' I am higher risk for diabetes, hypertension, pre-eclampsia. Who knew 33 was so old.
So, the long and short of it. Things look fine for right now. You can't tell a lot at 12 weeks.
I wish I felt better. I am always feeling better by now, with my others. And I am so grumpy. I sure because I haven't felt good in a few months. I'm hoping for a break for a few months, before I really hurt. Maybe I am old. Pregnancy is getting harder.

I'm glad to hear that everything looks great. Sorry that you're having such a rough pregnancy though, I swear births of multiples is on the rise, I keep having friends right and left who are having twins (and one set of triplets!). Good luck with everything! :-)

Yay for two of everything! I hope you feel better soon and wish I was there to help out! Just praying they will hold off until end May/beginning of June so I can fly on out there!

Hopefully after this week, you can start to feel better. I thought I would have too by 12 wks but I have never really been as sick with any of mine until this one. I hope you get at least one boy in there but if you're still feeling cruddy, maybe the other is a girl. I hear they make you miserable longer ;-) Call if you just need to chat or vent.
P.S. I love how your picture came out upside down
