I am going to just say it. I will put it out there. Then recoil as I get pelted with gasps.
I am seriously considering homeschooling.
Okay there. It's out.
I have taken quite a few things into account. Like class sizes being up to 35 kids per class room. I will be doing the majority of the teaching anyway. Like struggling with where to put 4 of 6 next year. Maybe because none of the 2 options are right. Like wanting to keep my kids from the profanity immorality, vulgarity that my kids are hit with every day. Like, none of the teachers 1 of 6 has had in the past 4 years have impressed me. even a little. The cons. 2 of 6 and 3 of 6 are thriving. 3 of 6 loves learning and school. 2 of 6 is excelling in all areas. But can't he do that at home? Home ALL day EVERY day. Can I do that?
I know the arguments against homeschooling. I do. I have made some of those very same arguments. But, if home schooling is right for my family, I think I am willing to find out.

My sister homeschools one of her three and they love it. I could never do it. I crave the 2 hours my daughter is away at preschool twice a week :)
wow. i gasped. j/k. I've thought about it myself actually. homeschooling can be certainly be good. what if you left 2 and 3 in school? that might work.
I know I have no right to an opinion on this one, but you'll figure it out one way or another. You'll know what's right. I support the idea of home schooling, but it's so easy to get overwhelmed and not make them work as hard because it's easier. I don't think you would do that because I know how you feel about your kids' education. Plus, home school does have the reputation of producing the socially inept. Couldn't you take them out of school once between being off track and try it out? Maybe just 1 of 6. Maybe you'll love it! Maybe they'll love it. Then again... maybe not.
I say, try for a trial run.
I've known kids who were home schooled. No matter how hard you try, they're always a little different because they can't relate to every one else as well. But I knew a girl who had all her "academic" subjects at home and all the social things (art, music, PE, etc.) at school. She turned out great from what I know. Maybe that's an idea too so they're not home 100% of the time.
There are pros and cons either way. At least you don't have demon children.
(Wow... this ended up being long...sorry)
I don't think there is a parent out there who hasn't at least thought about it but I've even considered it. You'll know what's right and what feels right. For me, the changes in the economy, our school district has made some poor decisions on who to hire and with cut backs, the information will be provided for what they're paid (out here that is. that's just the mentality so I can't speak for anyone else out there) and our "education" suffers.
You are braver than me. I know I could never do it. Have you looked into Charter Schools. We go to a charter school and it is heads and tails better than the public neighborhood school - the only hard part is getting into one. I love them because they are still public education - but they do things differently and don't have a whole school district to worry about.
My kids go to a charter school and I love love love it. Pray about it.... you'll know what's best for your family. :-)
You know I homeschool so obviously I think it is a good thing. I was like you always saying I didn't want to homeschool and I loved it when my kids went to school, but crysania just struggled so much in school that I knew I had to take her out, and bowen wanted to homeschool so that was an easy decision.
It was a tough decision so I know what you are going through, but I think it was the best decision for our family and I know that you will be able to decide what is best for your family.
We also tried a charter school for a year before homeschooling and I don't think they are really that much better than public schools expecially if you have a kid that struggles. What they really need is that one on one time.
There are lots of great curriculums out there and even online schools that are great. We are actually enrolled in Utah Virtual Academy this year which is a online charter school that you do from home, kind of a compramise between all homeschool and all public school.
Anyway kind of a long comment, but it is something I am pationate about. If you decide you really want to do it let me know I have lots of info and resources.
