Lights Out

We are finally off the lights. Both babies were sent home on bilibeds, for high jaundice levels. I should have expected it. all of my babies have had jaundice. Some higher than others. Well, 2 of 8 is the only one that didn't need photo therapy. If you know anything about jaundice, you know, with no underlying factors, biliruben peaks at 3-5 days. We hit day 5, day 6 day 7 day 8, and still really high numbers. By day 7, 8 of 8 started coming down. But 7 of 8 was still really high. Come to find out, he has breast milk jaundice. His body was processing protein in my milk instead of the biliruben. So my options were, quit nursing him for 24-48 hrs, or let him have jaundice and monitor him for 3-10 weeks, until he got it worked out. I chose the breast milk fast. I hate it. I had my supply built up for 2, then went back to 1, now I have to get back to 2 again. I feel like I am constantly feeding a baby. And it takes 30 minutes per kid, and they have started waking up at the same time. Which would be perfect, except for the fact that I can't tandem nurse yet. They are too small, and 7 of 8 doesn't latch well yet. Eventually she does, but we spend the first 10 minutes adjusting positions, and it takes both hands. I totally get why people bottle feed twins. When he was on formula, he was done in 10 minutes. Besides the making the bottle part, it was a quick process. But, I am determined to tandem nurse. It may take a little while, but it will happen.
It's nice to be back into our routine. Kids in school, Trent at work (although honestly, I would have kept him another week. I think he was done and ready to go to work again). Now if I could just catch up on my house, teach 6 of 8 how to use an inside voice, get her potty trained, and get 5 of 8 to stop crying about, everything. We would be in good shape.

You have your hands full Missy! I was thinking about you as I drove through Salt Lake yesterday. Where do you live? One of my daughters got married in January to Josh Smith from the 31st Ward where Conroy and Marilyn live. She lives in a 4-plex there on 800 East. She is looking for a teaching job for the school year. She graduated a couple of weeks ago from the U of U.

Anyway, she misses her husband while he is at work and it will probably be a long summer for her, not being in school. I was going to see if she wanted to help you out every now and again. What do you think? Sarah is amazing!

You can check out pictures and comments about her on my blog.
